Bachelor of Arts in English (B.A.)

The ability to communicate effectively in writing is a prized skill in today’s workplace. NLU’s English program, with a concentration in either Literature or Writing, can give you a solid foundation for careers in areas such as business, law, medicine and teaching. The concentration in English is also designed for those of you completing K-9 certificates.

How You Will Learn

NLU is nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for offering small classes–and nearly all of your English classes will have a maximum enrollment of 20.

Information about the major writers and periods of English and American literature.
Information about the cultural traditions found in minority literature.
A broad understanding of the various types of composition and literary traditions.
A foundation in language, rhetoric and composition theory.
How to analyze and critique writing.

CHICAGO DOWNTOWN CAMPUS

NLU’s Chicago campus on South Michigan Avenue occupies five floors of the historic Peoples Gas Building. This landmark building, across the street from the Art Institute of Chicago and Grant Park, is easily accessible by train, bus and car and is surrounded by restaurants, parking lots/garages and shops.
