Adjunct Faculty Needs Assessment
National Louis conducted a needs assessment of 1057 adjunct faculty to gather information to begin creating a comprehensive training plan for its adjuncts. 19.5% of adjunct faculty from all three colleges and university library responded to the survey. Survey results can be found by choosing Survey Results 2011. Survey results from the previous year can be found by choosing Survey Results 2010.
Adjunct Faculty Orientation Grant Proposal
In the fall of 2011, the Adjunct Council was awarded a Faculty Development Grant to design an online orientation for adjuncts. Collaborating with the Provost's Office, Ellen Belluomini and Linda Kryzak designed and facilitated the first four week pilot orientation in February 2012. Two groups of twenty adjuncts volunteered to participate in the pilot orientation. Thanks to the thoughtful feedback from the participants representing all three colleges (CAS,CMB, and NCE), a final report was submitted to the Provost's Office for review. A third session of the orientation was held in August. We are excited to announce that we have developed a yearlong calendar of sessions through May 2014. For more information about the orientation, click on Adjunct Orientation here or in the side menu.

VACANCIES: Adjunct Council Members (4)
If you're interested in representing your fellow adjuncts, consider applying for one of our four Adjunct Council member positions. It doesn't matter where your home campus is located, all of our meetings are held via conference call. We also attend the Connections conference each year at the Chicago campus. We would also be thrilled to have at least one new member represent the library adjuncts. For more information, check out the Adjunct Council Roster. For more detailed information on the requirements and responsibilities of an Adjunct Council member, consider reading the Adjunct Council Charter. If you aren't available now but plan to have more time to devote to the council during the 2013-2014 school year, we'd still love to hear from you.
Spotlight on Council Co-Chairs Ellen Belluomini, Linda Kryzak and Council Member, Stephanie Poczos
Ellen and Linda were recently interviewed along with Thomas Bergman, Vice-President of Human Resources for an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education. The article, entitled "Adjunct Orientations Take Hold, with a Variety of Approaches" was written by Audrey Williams June and published on March 4, 2013. The article provides a glimpse at the ways several universities and colleges provide orientation to their new adjuncts. Stephanie was one of the first adjunct faculty to take part in the pilot orientation in February/March of 2012. She told Audrey Williams June that "I very much appreciate that National Louis has recognized the need to train adjuncts to make them feel like they are part of the university community."
Spotlight on Council Member Susan Neustrum, Ed.D.
Susan was featured in a publication of "Impact" from the College of DuPage. The publication featured her work with "JUST (Justice, Understanding, Service and Teaching), a non profit organization that provides education and hope to incarcerated people at DuPage County jail". The article, entitled "JAILHOUSE ROCK STAR: From Dropout to Doctorate to Public Servant", is a great tribute to Sue regarding her personal and professional successes. Another council member, Nancy Harding commented that "the article was truly inspirational and you should be extremely proud of your personal achievements and the impact you have had on the residents within the DuPage County Jail system."
