| Position summary: | National Louis University (NLU) seeks a Vice President and Chief Research Officer to shape and guide its research agenda by building upon the existing corpus of expertise in engaged community research. NLU currently maintains strong foci in the fields of P-12 teacher and school leadership education and community psychology, and leverages long-standing and emerging local school and community partnerships. Leading work of the institution is currently anchored in deeply-rooted relations with organizations such as the Academy for Urban School Leadership, Teach for America, New Leaders for New Schools, several ethnically focused community agencies such as El Valor in Pilsen, and K-12 schools and districts throughout the Chicago-area. National Louis University is a private, non-profit, independent institution serving a diverse multicultural population of approximately 10,000 students enrolled in three Colleges with programs from the baccalaureate to the doctoral level. Students attend classes primarily on five campuses in the Chicago metropolitan area and two other campuses in Southern Wisconsin and Florida, and a campus in Poland. NLU, founded 126 years ago, has defined a bold new future as a professional university, preparing leaders, predominantly non-traditional learners who are ready to address tomorrows challenges in the context of increasing global urbanization. In recent years, National Louis has successfully garnered both public/private funding support and collaboration with partners, and the institution is now ready for a strategic leader to define and shape its future research agenda. As such, we have set in motion a culture of inquiry amongst faculty and a strong interest in leadership to advance our positioning in the broader research landscape. Ultimately, we seek a visionary to translate our mission and expertise into a collaboratively-driven research agenda that will advance knowledge relative to community development, provide policy counsel and inform the academic and development community on best practices. The successful candidate will have: a track record of increasing academic and leadership; experience conducting and managing interdisciplinary research programs; the ability to establish coalitions and encourage relationships between community leaders and investigators in order to facilitate multidisciplinary, community-campus-based research; a demonstrated record for securing external funding and establishing public/private alliances in order to advance a research agenda. The Vice President and Chief Research Officer will serve as the authorized institutional official responsible for assuring academic integrity in research and compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to research. Serving as a member of the Universitys Leadership Team, the Vice President and Chief Research Officer will establish the Universitys research strategic vision, goals and budgets and will represent the Universitys research interests to internal and external stakeholders. S/he will provide direct supervision and mentorship for all University research programs of the National College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences and College of Management and Business. |
| Responsibilities: | Range of Responsibilities " Establish National Louis Universitys vision for research. " Implement infrastructure that facilitates the growth of research which complements and grows existing projects and partnerships. " Develop, mentor, and govern productive research teams. " Establish and ensure operational performance objectives to achieve strategic research goals. " Connect, manage and develop relationships with the Leadership Team, faculty, and community partners. " Develop a knowledge and understanding of the business and culture of the University. " Demonstrate courageous leadership. " Collaborate and share resources with the Office of Institutional Advancement. " Oversee pre/post grants staff consisting of up to four people. |
| Minimum qualifications: | Education and Experience " Must possess a relevant doctoral degree and minimum of 7 years related work experience following completion of terminal degree. " More qualified candidates will distinguish themselves with demonstrated success in obtaining sustainable funding/grants from a variety of public and private sources with history of doing so for large-scale research and development activities. " An ideas person who can maintain continuity while being creative and appropriately confident in challenging strategic direction and recommending changes to accomplish organizational objectives. " Evidence of research experience is required. |
