Title: Assistant Professor Tenure-Track
Position summary: The National College of Education of National Louis University is pleased to announce its search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Secondary Education - Science for its Master of Arts in Teaching Program and solicits nominations and expressions of interest. National College of Education, NCATE accredited, is one of the largest colleges of education in the country, with dynamic programs serving diverse learners.

National Louis University is a multi-purpose, not-for-profit university that annually serves more than 13,000 students. Founded in 1886 and dedicated to a progressive philosophy of education and social justice, the University also includes colleges of arts and sciences, and management and business. National Louis University has five Chicago area campuses in downtown Chicago, North Shore (Skokie), Lisle, Wheeling and Elgin; sites in Florida, Virginia and Wisconsin, and Nowy Sacz, Poland. The College has six strategic themes: teacher preparation, preparation and support of educational leaders, professional development, transforming learning environments through technology, engaging alumni and maximizing collaboration, learning and resources/partnerships.
Responsibilities: The position requires an earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction or in a content discipline, preferably in the sciences; experience in teaching at the middle or high school level; an active research agenda and research-based knowledge of teaching and learning. Candidates with experience in urban environments and schools, grant writing, and using technology to enhance student learning, residency-based teacher education programs are preferred. Faculty in the college is expected to be involved with partner schools. The position is based in the Chicago area and requires travel to our five Chicago area campuses. Responsibilities for the faculty position include teaching graduate courses in general methods for secondary teachers, Science content methods, student teaching seminar for a residency-based model, student advising, and program coordination. The faculty member will also participate in the work of the Secondary Education Program to assure continued recognition by NSTA/NCATE and to enhance quality and innovation in science instruction.

The Secondary Education Program at National Louis University is designed for aspiring middle and secondary school teachers. Constructivist philosophy has guided the programs development, coursework, materials, and instructional methods. We want our students to examine learning and learners in a way that will inform their instructional practices. Given the recognized quality of the National College of Education programs, successful graduates will have attractive opportunities for employment as secondary school teachers.
