| Position summary: | Founded in 1886 in Chicago, National Louis University is a private not-for-profit university grounded in the principles of access to education and life-long learning. NLU serves some 10,000 students in three Colleges with programs from the Baccalaureate to the Doctoral level primarily on five campuses in the Chicago metropolitan area and three other campuses in Southern Wisconsin and Florida. NLU has a highly diverse student body and a long tradition of serving urban, immigrant, and minority populations. Its programs are highly regarded for the quality of instruction, innovation, small classes that create strong ties between students and faculty, and flexibility that speaks to the needs of its largely adult-learner student population, most of whom study part-time while continuing their careers. | Responsibilities: | The ESL and Bilingual Education program at National Louis University seeks qualified professionals for adjunct teaching positions for graduate courses in English as a Second Language (ESL)/Bilingual Education teacher preparation in the following disciplines: Assessment of ESL and Bilingual Students; Reading in a New Language: Linguistic Considerations; Introduction to Linguistics for TESOL; Cross Cultural Education; Technology Applications for Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Students; Methods and Materials for Teaching English as a Second Language; Methods and Materials for Teaching Bilingual Education; Introduction to Linguistics for TESOL; and Family Literacy for Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Students. |
| Minimum qualifications: | Masters degree with 30 additional semester hours in TESOL or relevant field of study are required. Earned doctorate in language education, TESOL, applied linguistics, linguistics or a related area preferred. Preferred candidates will have background in early childhood education, first and second language acquisition, and experience teaching ESL in a pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade setting; experience with working with diverse populations, and experience providing professional development to in-service teachers. Experience in teaching via an online environment also desirable. Successful candidates will be required to complete pre-employment training in Desire to Learn, NLU's online teaching program. Teaching assignments include weeknights , Saturdays, as well as blended and online delivery modes . Campus locations include: Chicago; Lisle; North Shore; Wheeling; Elgin; plus on-site locations. |
