New Student Success
Engage in Orientation
All students will be enrolled in NLU 101. Our online orientation is added to every new student's Desire 2 Learn (D2L) account prior to the start of classes. This is an interactive course that provides students with the opportunity to learn about NLU, online tools, and learn how to use the online campus. All courses utilize this program even if it's a course that occurs on campus.
Order your Course Materials
Our NLU Online Bookstore, Ecampus, allows students to purchase books and any NLU apparel every term. The bookstore officially opens four weeks before the term starts and is a one-stop shopping experience where you can use NLU book advances/vouchers and save on used and marketplace books. Chicago students may have books shipped to the Chicago campus for pickup on campus. On-campus buy backs are offered three times a year after the Fall, Winter and Spring terms at the Chicago, North Shore, Wheeling and Lisle campuses.

Online Course Success
Online courses are an accessible and flexible way for students to fulfill degree requirements. Employers are also looking for technically savvy prospects who can demonstrate these competencies: robust written and verbal skills, solid time management skills and self-direction. Online courses can help you strengthen these attributes. Completing NLU 101 will help you acclimate to the NLU online learning environment. Undergraduate students can expect to have up to 10 hours of homework a week for a 5 QH class that meets for 10 weeks. Graduate students can expect to have up to 9 hours of homework a week for a 3 SH class that meets for 10 weeks. An accelerated course will have more face time and homework each week depending on the length of the class.
NLU uses Desire2Learn (D2L) as our online learning management system. Classes should be accessible on the home page of D2L up to ten days before the start date. Once you click on the "NLU Online Campus" link, found on the My Courses tab of the portal, you will be taken directly to D2L where you will see a list of your courses under the My Courses heading. If you course is not listed there, it has not been activated by your instructor yet. If you have any questions about your enrollment in the class, please check back on the portal and view your course schedule under the My Services tab.
D2L online course tutorials can help you learn to navigate the online classroom. You can also use the log in below to get familiar with D2L before you have full access. To access the demonstration course go to https://d2l.nl.edu/
Contact the OIT Help Desk 24/7 at 866-813-1177 or email email@example.com if you have trouble accessing your course.
