Cheryl Hoyer Memorial Scholarship in Applied Behavioral Sciences
In memory of the life of Cheryl Hoyer, the Cheryl Hoyer Memorial Scholarship provides tuition assistance to students in the Applied Behavioral Sciences program and who are the care-giver for a child with special needs or are providing support or services to children with special needs. This scholarship is competitive and awarded on the basis of qualifications and financial need.
Cheryl Hoyer (1958-2008) was a dynamic and committed student in the ABS program at National-Louis University. She was widely respected by her faculty and peers being known for her positivity, humility and organization. She was also steadfastly and completely devoted to her family. Motivated by her own child's need, Cheryl founded an Equipment Lending Library for children with special needs. Katy's Kloset has been helping families since 1995.
Applications are now being accepted. The scholarship seeks to make multiple awards per year.
To be considered for the scholarship, you must:
- Be pursuing a degree in the Applied Behavioral Science program at NLU.
- Fulfill the scholarship's application requirements: application form, resume and essay.
- Be in good standing with Student Finance.
Factors to be considered in awarding scholarships include financial need, dedication to a career in human services, previous work experience in the field, and volunteer activity or leadership.
Preferential points will be awarded to students who demonstrate any of the following:
- Are the primary care-giver for a child with special needs
- Support or work with children with special needs
- Are returning to school after an absence to care for children
Previous applicants for this scholarship may re-apply; however first consideration will be given to applicants who have not received an award in the past.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee of academic leadership convened by the College of Arts & Sciences, for the sole purpose of reviewing and selecting applicants.
Scholarship assistance will never be provided in the form of direct payments of cash to students. Awards are instead made as credits to students' accounts to cover the cost of tuition.
