Financial Aid Overview
In order to apply for financial aid, the first step is to complete the FAFSA by going to www.fafsa.gov. When completing the FAFSA remember to use the NLU school code of 001733.
The requirements to be considered for financial aid include:

- Students must be admitted into National-Louis University
- Students must be enrolled in a degree seeking program or qualified certificate program
- Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
Once admitted and in receipt of your FAFSA information, Financial Aid will either prepare and send an award letter or we will contact you to submit additional information which is known as verification. If you receive an award letter, sign and return the letter to the Office of Student Finance.
If you are asked to verify your information, as required by Federal regulation, we cannot complete your financial aid until you have submitted the necessary information.
Contact Student Finance if you a have any questions and remember to check the NLU portal for information about your financial aid.
Book Advance/Voucher
In an effort to assist students with the cost of textbooks needed to attain their educational goals, NLU's Office of Student Finance provides the following options:
- A Book Voucher/line of credit with NLU's textbook partner, eCampus.
- A Check Advance made payable to the student.
Eligibility requirements for either option include:
- A complete financial aid file with funding available to cover tuition, fees and other authorized expenses or;
- Confirmation from an outside agency specifically stating that book charges are an eligible item to be included on the invoice sent directly to the agency. Examples of this option include, but are not limited to; Military Benefits, Illinois Department of Rehabilitation, Workforce Investment Act or other corporate billing plans.
The dollar amount of the book voucher/advance is based upon the student's enrollment for the term. A book voucher/advance amount of $150.00 per course will be issued upon request as soon as all eligibility criteria have been verified. Book vouchers are typically available within 24 hours of verification of eligibility and advances are available the next business day.
To request either method, please send an email to the Office of Student Finance at: StudentFinance@nl.edu and include your NLU student ID number as well as if you would prefer a check advance or a voucher with eCampus. Students who wish to pick up an advance at one of NLU's campuses must complete a 'pick-up' form available at: http://www.nl.edu/studentfinance/financialaid/upload/Check-Request-form.pdf .
Please note:
Amounts requested that exceed the amount of $150.00 per course are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The Office of Student Finance is unable to issue either a book voucher or an advance for an amount that would exceed the amount of a student's available funding from either financial aid or a third party agency. Any additional refunds to cover other expenses will be reduced by the amount of this voucher/advance.
