IRRB Criteria for Ethical Research

This resource document lists criteria for ethical research based upon upon the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 45, Public Welfare, Part 46, Protection of Human Subjects (revised Oct 1, 1997). It provides important information regarding safeguards for participants, vulnerable populations, and informed consent.

 

Principles of Research with Human Participants

This document, adapted from the Belmont Report in October 2001, outlines the essential principles and guidelines for ethical research.

 

 

U.S. Holocaust Museum Website

This site provides information on the “doctors’ trial” at Nuremberg. The Nuremberg Code was written by American doctors assisting in the Nuremberg trials following World War II.

The Tuskegee Syphilis Study

This infamous study clearly violated most of the ethical principles outlined by the Nuremberg and Helsinki documents, yet the study was terminated only after it became public following a front page newspaper article.
