Life Skills

Socialization

Appropriate social skills are necessary for P.A.C.E. students to be successful at work and in the relationships they develop. They practice and apply these skills in real-life situations in their living and working environments, interacting with peers, coworkers and supervisors on a daily basis.

Planned activities that encourage social interaction are an important part of the P.A.C.E. program. Students gain experience building friendships and become socially competent through their classroom instruction about relationships. As the students feel more confident in their ability to interact with others, they are encouraged to plan social activities on their own.

Alumni Relations

The success of the P.A.C.E. socialization module is reflected in the close ties that connect the program’s graduates. More than 50 percent of P.A.C.E. alumni attended the fifteenth year anniversary of the program in 2002, participating in a variety of events and re-establishing old friendships. The recently formed Alumni Group, which is facilitated by a P.A.C.E. mentor, plans social activities and seminars—and is instrumental in gathering information about the life and career paths of the program’s graduates

Life Skills

Money management, time management, organization and personal care are the four main areas of instruction in life skills. Life skills instructors work on a range of skills from basic to advanced through weekly individual and small group instruction that is reinforced by the student life staff.
