Biography
Seema Imam is past chair of the University Senate, Co-Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Council, and continues to serve Senate from National College of Education. She is a member of the Elementary and Middle Level Teacher Education department. Seema serves on the Human Rights Commission of Hickory Hills, Illinois. She actively embraces higher education practices that can enhance student achievement and adjustment in Elementary and Middle level classrooms. Seema uses a variety of technology integration techniques in her classroom and teaches to meet the needs of a diverse population. Seema Imam has 16 years of classroom teaching experience in Chicago Public Schools, 5 years as a founding principal of a private Islamic school and 15 years in teacher education. She has several publications and makes presentations worldwide on both education and religion. Seema's passion about teaching with diversity and inclusion in mind led to her research about issues of the public curriculum and the mass media depiction of communities and stereotyping of Muslims in particular. With multicultural education in mind she has researched the adjustment and perspective of Muslims in educational settings. She teaches, Practicum I and II, Student Teaching, Methods Across the Curriculum, and Middle Level Overview and Curriculum.
