National Louis University Faculty Experts on Obama's 2012 Budget
On Monday, Feb. 14, President Barack Obama released his budget for fiscal year 2012, which begins on Oct. 1, 2011. The budget requests $77.4 billion in education funding, including $49 billion in non-Pell Grant discretionary funding. In particular, the budget includes:
-$14.8 billion for educating disadvantaged students;
-$11.7 billion for special education;
-$600 million for school turnaround grants;
-$300 million for rewarding student achievement;
-$2.5 billion for state grants to improve teacher quality;
-$900 million for Race to the Top funding.
