Introducing the 2010 Summer Service-Learning team to New Orleans:
There are 30 members of the NLU community, representing students and faculty from early childhood, elementary, secondary, and the doctoral community psychology programs. These men and women will be working with teachers of schools part of NLU’s Partnership with NOLA Schools Project. The first team of 15 leaves Sunday, July 25 and will spend the week at KIPP Central City Academy, preparing 4th and 8th grade classrooms for Fall start. The August 8th team of 15 will work with teachers and children at John Dibert School, as the school reopens post Hurricane Katrina.
The principals of both schools are excited to have NLU students return to NOLA. Both teams are bringing books from NLU’s Donation Station, affiliated with the Center for Teaching through Children’s Books. Please take some time to follow the progress of the work as team members post reflections and photos on the new summer blog: www.nlunola2010.blogspot.com.
