Searching for Articles in EBSCOHost Databases

Accessing the databases

Begin your search on the Library's Home page. Click on the Articles link under "Find It" in the top left quadrant of the page.

Then click on the Databases by Subject link under Journal Articles. Here, the library's databases are organized by subject. Choose a subject area to view the databases appropriate for that subject.

Some of the subject areas have the option to search EBSCOHost databases. It is a good idea to start your search with these databases because EBSCOHost allows you to search several of their subject databases at one time. For example, you can select EBSCOHost Education Databases or EBSCOHost Business/Management Databases.

Searching in EBSCOHost databases

Clicking the EBSCOHost databases link will take you to the EBSCOHost search screen. Type your search term into the search box located near the top left of the screen. Then click Search.

The results of your search will appear on the next screen. Notice on the left side of the results list, there is the option to "Refine your results." For example, you can limit your results to full text, scholarly (peer reviewed) journals (for select databases only) or use the date slider bar to change the date range of your results. Once you have selected your limiter(s), click Update Results.

You can narrow further by selecting a source type, such as Magazines, News, or Academic Journal, or click on an appropriate Subject for your search term or topic and your results will be narrowed down to only those articles that are filed under that specific subject heading.

Viewing your results

In the results list, you can preview an article by clicking on the magnifying glass icon next to an article title. This will display some of the article citation, including the abstract if available. To view the full citation record, click on the title of the article or the Detailed Record link.

The detailed record includes all of the citation information and for many articles an abstract that gives a summary of the article. It also includes a link to the full text of the article (if available). On the right column of the citation record, there are also tools that allow you to print, email, save, view in a citation format, export, or put into a folder
