Request and Renew Books

How to Request a Book:



Find a book -
  1. From the Library Web Page (www.nl.edu/library)
  2. Click on "Book Search."
  3. Click on "NLU BOOK CATALOG."
  4. Search for book(s) using the Basic or Advanced search tabs.


Request the book -
  1. Click on the title of the book you would like to request.  (Make sure this copy is available or non-circulating material)
  2. Then click on "Request" button at the top of the page.
  3. Enter your NLU Library ID (19xxxxxxxx2840  x=your NLU Student ID minus the "N") and last name.
  4. Click "Login."
  5. Select "Request NLU's Copy" and click "OK."
  6. Enter your NLU Library ID again, select a Pick Up Location, and click "Submit Request."
  7. You should then see the message, "Your Patron Initiated Request was successful."


Requesting Non-NLU Books -
  1. If the book(s) you would like to request are not found in NLU Library Book Catalog, click on "Repeat search in ALL I-Share Libraries" (a link above the search area), or click on I-Share Libraries in the toolbar to begin a new search.
  2. If a copy of the book is available, click on "Request" at the top of the page.
  3. Select "National-Louis University" for your home library from the pull-down menu.
  4. Enter your NLU Library ID (19xxxxxxxx2840  x=your NLU Student ID minus the "N") and last name.
  5. Click "Login."
  6. Select "Request First Available Copy" and click "OK."
  7. Enter your NLU Library ID again, select a Pick Up Location, and click "Submit Request."
  8. You should then see the message, "Your Patron Initiated Request was successful."

How to Renew a Book:


  1. From the NLU Library home page (www.nl.edu/library), click on "Book Search."
  2. Then click on "My Account."
  3. Enter your NLU Library ID (19xxxxxxxx2840  x=your NLU Student ID minus the "N") and your last name.
  4. Click "Login."
  5. The first area will be "Items Checked Out" organized by the I-Share libraries including NLU.
  6. To renew a book, click in the box to the left and then select "Renew."
  7. Scroll down to the bottom of "Items Checked Out" and click on "Renew Selected Items."
  8. If the Renew box is not visible, it means your account is blocked (due to fines/fees, overdues, etc.) and you should contact the circulation department at 1-800-443-5522, ext. 5335.


How to Cancel a Request:


  1. Below "Items Checked Out" you will find "Request Information" and if you have outstanding requests it will say "Requests Pending."
  2. Click in the box to the left of the requested title to cancel that request.
