ECR Tips and Tricks

Access Information


Documents on Electronic Course Reserve [ECR] can be accessed from any internet enabled computer.

 

All ECR materials are password protected. Password information should be provided by your instructor. Questions regarding password information can be directed to Cindy Bogenholm at cbogenholm@nl.edu or 847-947-5515.

 

Steps to access ECR:

    If you are off-campus:
1. Go to my.nl.edu and log-in to the NLU PORTAL
(if you do not know the password call HelpDesk x800-443-5522, x4357) or you can log-in to your WEBCT/Blackboard course.
2. Go to the Library website.
3.  Click “Electronic Reserves” link on the left side navigation menu.
4.  Under “Instructor Name” select  instructor’s name  OR under “Course” select appropriate course number.
5.  Leave “Department” field defaulted to ”Any”
6.  Click SEARCH button Find an appropriate document from the list and click on it.
7.  Click on the underlined article name again. ( can be found under “E-Items:”)
8  Adobe Reader will launch to open the document.
9. In the pop-up window, type in the password (to be obtained from your instructor).
10. Requested document will open. (It might take a a while depending on file size and internet speed.)

 

If you are on-campus:

1. Go to www.nl.edu/library
2.  Click “Electronic Reserves” link on the left side navigation menu.

ECR Screen Information


ECR materials are listed in individual files within the online library card catalog.  Each ECR entry screen contains one hypertext link to the reserve materials.  This hypertext link is listed and underlined in the E-Items field. Click on underlined title within the E-Items field and you will be brought to the password entry section for your ECR materials.  A picture of a typical ECR screen is below.

Software Requirements

Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat is required to view documents on Course Reserve. If one does not have it installed on a computer, a free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded www.adobe.com.
