Public Policy (M.A.)

Program Description:

You CAN make a difference, especially if you know more about the role of public policy in today’s society. From law enforcement to the environment, the policies we develop affect how we live, work and play—and a broader understanding of their impact is essential if we are indeed committed to improving the quality of life for ourselves and our children.

The NLU graduate program in Public Policy is designed to give you the competitive edge and professional perspective needed to analyze, prepare, recommend and implement policies and programs that affect public facilities and community services. This interdisciplinary program draws from best practices in sociology, political science and economics—and you will have the chance to learn more about areas ranging from regional development, natural resources and land use to natural resources, transportation and law enforcement.

How You Will Learn:

The NLU graduate program in Public Policy is taught using a cohort model, which means you will go through the program with the same group of 12-20 students. NLU graduates like the cohort model because of the support and friendships provided by their fellow students throughout the program.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to engage in and shape public policy.
  • How to understand the impact of urban, social and public policies.
  • How to use analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • How to analyze policy data.
  • How to apply research design and methodology to public policy issues.

Where You Can Take the Program:

At NLU campuses in Chicago, Elgin, Lisle, Skokie (North Shore) and Wheeling.
