Counseling (M.S.) with School Counseling Option

*Type73 Guidance Endorsement for School Counseling

The following courses are required based on ISBE standards. For teachers, the program will follow the regular counseling program with two exceptions, HSC534 and HSC533.

Students in this program who do not have a current Illinois Teaching Certification are required to take HSC533 instead of HSC504.

The following courses are required based on ISBE Standards for students that already have a Master's degree in counseling.

Course Requirements 51 SH*

For teachers with a current, valid Illinois teaching certificate:

HSC504 Clinical Techniques in Counseling 3
HSC534 School Counseling: Theory, Issues, and Practice 3
HSC533 Counseling Practicum 3
HSM584 Human Services Internship IV 1-2
HSM585 Internship Supervision 1-3

For Non-Teachers - Must pass the Illinois Basic Skills test as part of admissions requirements and take:

HSC534 School Counseling: Theory, Issues, and Practice 3
HSC533 Counseling Practicum 3

(above taken instead of HSC504 Clinical Techniques of Counseling)
EPS539 Cognitive Behavioral Intervention in School 2
SPE500 Introduction to Exceptional Children and Adolescents/Special Education 3
EPS509 Structure and Organization of the Educational System for School Counselors 2
HSM584 Human Services Internship IV 1-2
HSM585 Internship Supervision 1-3
