Frequently Asked Questions

Contact Dr. Joanne B. Koch, M.S. in Written Communication Program Director, at jkoch@nl.edu or 312-261-3103.

Can I transfer prior graduate course credit?
NLU may accept up to 6 semester hours of credit from an approved accredited graduate institution with approval from the instructor.
What other types of credit are accepted?
You may be able to apply up to 6 hours of credit by proficiency for past professional experience at the discretion of the instructor.
Do I have to have an undergraduate degree in English?
No. If you hold an undergraduate degree in any subject matter, you may apply to the program.
Can I attend full-time?
You can attend full time if your schedule allows.  Courses are offered in the evenings and on Saturdays. Because writing is a developmental skill and time-consuming, we suggest that students who work full time take one writing-intensive course per quarter. Written Communication courses are offered throughout the year, including the summer.
