How can I become a teacher?
If you have a bachelor's non-teaching degree, you would be interested in pursuing our M.A.T. in Secondary Education.
What type of state certificate will I earn?
You will earn certification as a secondary teacher by the Illinois State Board of Education.
I am already an early childhood teacher. Do I need to earn my master's in Secondary Education to become certified?
No. Certified teachers at the early childhood, elementary and special education levels should apply to the subsequent certification program.
What is student teaching?
Students act as practitioners in a classroom setting and are monitored/mentored by an experienced, certified teacher and a university supervisor.
What is a cohort?
Cohorts consist of a group of 20 or less students who progress through the same program. Cohorts encourage group interaction and enhance the learning experience.
