Program Description:
The NLU doctoral program in Disability and Equity in Education is for you if you are interested in exploring the historical, political, social, cultural, pedagogical and philosophical values and beliefs and processes that have constructed disability in education. The program is interdisciplinary in nature and prepares individuals for continued practice as teachers and education leaders, or for roles in teacher education, community leadership or disability-related policy.
How You Will Learn:
Disability and Equity in Education coursework is offered at the Wheeling and Skokie campuses. DEE is not offered in a cohort model, however, classes are small and provide opportunity for support and friendship among fellow students as well as faculty. Students may begin the program immediately upon admission acceptance and courses may be taken at a flexible pace that is conducive to students. Doctoral core and research courses are interdisciplinary, drawing students from several doctoral programs and provide DEE students opportunities to learn and grow by experiencing various educational perspectives.

- How to affect social change in teaching practice and policy in the field.
- How to combine theory and practice to create a viable learning community.
- An in-depth understanding of the historical, political, social, cultural and philosophical values, beliefs and processes that have shaped the disability in education field.
