Grants are gift funds, based on need, that do not have to be repaid and are available to eligible undergraduate students only. If you're eligible, the grant(s) will be listed on your financial aid award notification letter. NLU offers four types of grants:

Federal Pell Grant - The Federal Pell Grant is an award to help undergraduates pay for education after high school. To determine eligibility, the U.S. Department of Education uses a standard formula, to evaluate the information that you report on your FAFSA.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) - The FSEOG is an award for first-time undergraduates. The amount you may receive depends on your financial need, amount of other aid you receive, and the availability of funds at NLU.

Illinois State Monetary Award Program (MAP) - The MAP award is a grant available from the State of Illinois for Illinois resident undergraduate students. Your eligibility for the MAP grant is determined by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) after you complete the FAFSA. Verification of eligibility and announcement of an estimated award amount (if any) is performed by NLU. We recommend you submit your FAFSA as soon as possible.

NLU Grant - This is a grant funded by the University to assist undergraduate students in meeting financial need. The amount you may receive depends on your financial need, amount of other aid you receive, and the availability of funds at NLU.
