McHenry County College – NLU Transfer Guide for Elementary Education

Welcome McHenry County College Students

To graduate with a bachelor’s degree from National-Louis University, all students must successfully complete a minimum of 180 QH (120 SH) consisting of courses in general education, the program major, electives and any additional program requirements.

The Elementary Education major requires specific general education courses to meet certification requirements.  The following general education requirements may not fulfill the general education requirements for the A.A. or A.S. degrees at McHenry County College.  NOTE:  Some courses may require prerequisites.

Standard Teaching Concentration: (30 QH)

Students complete a standard teaching concentration of 30 quarter hours, beyond the general education requirements, as part of the Elementary Education program by choosing from one of the following areas: Anthropology; Art; Biology; English; Mathematics; Psychology; Psychology/Human Development; Science; Sociology; Sociology/Anthropology.  Cohort programs typically preselect one of the following teaching concentrations:  English, Math, or Science. 

A student may take three of these courses (15 QH) at MCC. The remaining three courses (15 QH) must be completed at NLU, with 300 and 400 level courses.  Each concentration has specific course requirements so students need to contact NLU's Undergraduate Academic Advising Center (UAAC) regarding appropriate coursework.  (www.nl.edu/advising)
