National-Louis University opened a new state-of-the-art West Suburban campus at 850-950 Warrenville Road in Lisle this January.

The campus, nestled in the architecturally renowned Corporetum complex just off the East-West Tollway (I-88) and across from the Morton Arboretum, combines easy accessibility for students and faculty with a quiet campus feel. The facility houses 42 classrooms, computer labs, library, conference rooms, and a public café, student lounge and welcome center. Six distinct student lounge areas accommodate both wireless and wired computers. Classrooms are equipped with high-tech LCD projectors and screens, as well as computer ports to accommodate laptops.

“This is an exciting new chapter in the history of National-Louis University,” said National-Louis President Curtis McCray. “The West Suburban Campus in Lisle is an outstanding example of modern college campus design that will accommodate traditional-age students and our busy adult learners. It is a perfect blend of up-to-the-minute educational technology and a very comfortable and comforting human space, in which our remarkable faculty can work with students.”

“We have listened to what our students want and need and tried to incorporate as much of that as possible into the new campus,” said William Roberts, vice president for operations at National-Louis.

A “Welcome Center” at the entrance to the campus houses a public café with a capacity of 60 that serves coffee and other beverages, sandwiches, as well as soups from Au Bon Pain. The welcome area also incorporates an information and student services center and can double as a site for public events. The Corporetum development features well-lit and patrolled parking lots including adequate parking adjacent to National-Louis University campus buildings.

Academic service areas house National-Louis University’s Center for Positive Aging and Gerontology as well as the nationally-renowned Reading Recovery program that trains Illinois teachers in early intervention for struggling readers.

The new campus also includes offices for university staff and faculty, a new public events space with large capacity seating, student study areas and observation classrooms.

The university’s move to the brand new West Suburban location marks a historic step for the 119-year old university, which was a national pioneer in developing multiple campus locations beginning in the early 1970s. In addition to the West Suburban campus, National-Louis has a flagship urban campus at 122 South Michigan in the Loop, campuses in Evanston, Wheeling and Elgin, as well as Washington, D.C., Florida and Poland.

Beginning as a small school for pioneering early-childhood educators in the 1880s, National-Louis would grow into the National College of Education, which became internationally renowned for undergraduate and graduate programs in education. One of three colleges that compose National-Louis, NCE today still grants more graduate degrees to working teachers than any non-profit private institution in the country.

Today, the university also offers programs through its College of Management and Business and its College of Arts and Sciences. National-Louis University has been a force for change in the American education since its founding. It is still nationally renowned today not only for its programs in teacher preparation and educational leadership, but as one of the first universities to address the unique needs of adult learners.
