FORT BELVOIR, VA. (ARMY MANAGEMENT STAFF COLLEGE, January 19) - On January 19, 2005, the Army Management Staff College signed an articulation agreement with National-Louis University. Col. Aaron B. Hayes, AMSC Commandant, Susan Shumate, Executive Director, Northern Virginia/Washington DC Campus and Mike Payne, Assistant Dean, College of Management and Business, officiated at the ceremony.
"We understand the challenges facing the adult learner, and we are delighted to work with AMSC," said Shumate. She then gave a brief history of National-Louis University. Elizabeth Harrison, a pioneer in elementary and early childhood education, founded the school as National College of Education in 1886. The growth of traditional education programs was followed by the development of programs in allied health, applied behavioral sciences, and human services. The institution formally organized the latter programs in 1982 under the Michael W. Louis School of Arts and Sciences. Another rapid growth area, business programs, culminated with the formation in 1989 of the College of Management and Business. The institutional name, National-Louis University, unites the great name of National College of Education with that of trustee and benefactor Michael W. Louis. Three colleges comprise National-Louis University: National College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Management and Business.
As Col. Hayes prepared to sign the official documents, he commented, "This agreement turns on the light to a commitment towards life-long learning for our students."
What are articulation agreements? Quite simply, they are written agreements between schools that denote how one school will recognize the work of the students or graduates of the other school. AMSC articulation agreements provide graduates the opportunity to enter a partner school and/or program knowing that the work they have completed in the Sustaining Base Leadership and Management (SBLM) program will count as credit to the extent agreed upon between AMSC and its partner schools.
AMSC educates students on the thinking and linking skills that build a culture of continuous change and innovation critical to Army Transformation. To learn more about AMSC programs and services, please visit our web site at http://amscportal.belvoir.army.mil.
