Math Recovery™ involves specialist teachers working to advance the mathematical knowledge of low attaining first grade students to a level where they can learn successfully in a regular class. It is an appropriate response to the problem of chronic failure of too many students in school mathematics and is focused on the first grade year, before "at risk" students are too far behind their peers and have experienced too much failure.
This 12-month specialist development course focuses on the theory, assessment and teaching of Math Recovery™ to advance the mathematical knowledge of low attaining first grade students. It includes 5 days of specialist training beginning in Lisle August 7th through August 11th, 5 more training days spread throughout the academic year and 3 onsite coaching visits. (The class members will determine these additional days and coaching visit days.) Teachers receive 6 semester hours of graduate credit.
