Alternative Route to Certification for Elementary Teachers (ARC)

This program is intended for those who have experience as elementary classroom teachers but who lack the regular elementary certificate Type 03 issued by the State of Illinois.  The candidates for this program are those who have a Type 39 [substitute] certificate and teach in Chicago Public Schools, those who have a Type 29 [transitional bilingual] certificate, those who teach in charter schools, and those who teach in non-public schools.

All candidates considered for this program must have a bachelor's degree from a USA regionally accredited institution or its equivalent.  All candidates considered for this program must also have a minimum of one year of experience as a full-time teacher in an elementary classroom.  Candidates must be admitted to the Master of Arts in Teaching degree program for the Alternative Route to Certification.  Candidates are not required to complete all degree requirements to be recommended for certification in Illinois.

PLEASE NOTE: This program leads to elementary certification in Illinois in addition to a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Degree.
