NLU in the Community

  • Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) Teachers:  155 NLU teachers-in-training spend one-year, full-time in a Chicago public school working with master teachers to earn their teaching certificates and master’s degrees

  • Awarded 14 percent of all Master’s in Education degrees in Illinois in 2006

  • One of the largest providers of graduate degrees in education in the country

  • Written Communication M.S. degree focuses on developing writing skills to a professional level; hosts Pulitzer series

  • The Gidwitz Center for Urban Policy and Community Development seeks to develop and advocate for public policy responsive to the needs and aspirations of citizens across the Chicago Metropolitan Area
