School Psychology Observation Tools

Welcome to the SPOT - The School Psychology Observation Tools site for the NLU School Psychology program. The SPOT is where NLU students and supervisors access and complete our program's evaluation tools. Data from these evaluations are used for:

  • Formative and summative assessment of our students' performance, and to provide support through supervision and training;
  • Formative and summative assessment of our effectiveness as a training program, and to constantly improve the quality of training we provide;
  • Support of ongoing communication between students, the field, and the university.

Supervisor Tools

Supervisors, Please complete these two evaluation tools:

  1. The Field Evaluation of Student measures the student's growth in various domains of school psychology practice
  2. The Professional Behaviors Evaluation of Student measures the student's professional behaviors.

Your performance ratings of the student are important to us. In addition to providing performance-based evaluation of this student, feedback from the site supervisors helps us evaluate and improve our program.

The ratings should be based on your observation and reports received from others (i.e. staff, parents, students). In situations where a student has more than one supervisor, it is okay for (a) each supervisor to complete the surveys separately or (b) all of the supervisors to complete the surveys as a team. Choose the level of expectation from the scale that best describes the student's current performance based on the descriptions below:

  • Poor: Failed to meet expectations. Student consistently performs poorly and needs improvement. A specific plan and period of time should be established to improve performance.
  • Below Standard: Met some, but not all expectations. Student’s performance is below average. Requires improvement to perform effectively in a professional environment.
  • Standard: Met expectations. Student meets typical expectations. Most students will possess skills and judgment sufficient to meet professional demands in the area and a large portion of them will remain in this range.
  • Above Standard: Exceeded expectations. Performance and judgment of students in this category is decidedly better than average. Shows sensitivity, judgment and skills beyond what is normally expected or displayed by peers.
  • Outstanding: Superior experience-based expectations. Student’s performance is recognizably and decidedly better than that of a large proportion of other students.
  • Not Observed: Insufficient data to make a rating at this time.

Student Tools

Students, please complete these two evaluation tools:

  1. The Evaluation of Field Experience and Field Supervisor provides information on the field experience, support from the district and site, and field supervisor(s).
  2. The Evaluation of University Preparation and Support for Field Experience provides information on how well prepared students feel for their field experience based on their training, and on the support received from the university supervisor(s).

Your opinions are important to us. The feedback you give helps us assess the quality of opportunities we provide to you and to evaluate and improve our program.

Choose the level of expectation from the scale that best describes your experience based on the descriptions below:

  • Poor: Failed to meet expectations.
  • Below Standard: Met some, but not all expectations.
  • Standard: Met expectations.
  • Above Standard: Exceeded expectations.
  • Outstanding: Superior experience-based expectations.
  • Not Observed: Insufficient data to make a rating at this time.
