Directions: This evaluation is to be filled out by the teaching candidate's University Supervisor for candidates completing Alternative Licensure Experience. Please allow enough time to finish the entire evaluation in one sitting as there is no way to save it and finish it later. Once you are finished with an evaluation, click on Submit. This will enter your evaluation into our records. Then share the completed Appraisal using the steps below:

As the University Supervisor for the LBS I Alternative Teacher Licensure Program your responsibilities are:

  • You will complete six formal observations over the course of the school year, two per NLU term, using the LBS I Alternative Teacher Licensure Competency Appraisal.
  • Competency Appraisals are submitted electronically.
  • You will have a Mid-Term Evaluation Meeting with the candidates you are supervising each term.
  • You will have a Final Evaluation Conference with the candidates you are supervising each term.
  • You will make contact with the ATL Mentor. You will be provided with contact information as soon as possible.
  • You will serve as liaison between NCE/NLU and the local school. Please keep us informed of any concerns as soon as you note them.
Assessment Philosophy of the ATL Field Experience

The Field Experience is a professional experience designed to be the transition to the role of Special Education Teacher.  The primary channel for professional growth during this experience is the regular and continuing cooperation and assessment among the ATL teacher candidate, the mentor teacher and the university ATL Mentor.  National College of Education is committed to assessing student performance on the basis of competence.  The Competency Appraisal is one component of the final grade for the Field Experience.  It also serves as one of the Special Education program’s Assessment System Checkpoints and will become a part of the teacher candidate’s permanent record at the university.

Standards and Indicators of Competence:
The five constructs of teaching assessed using the competency appraisal are based on the standards of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Council for Exceptional Children and the Interstate New Teacher and Support Consortium.  The specific standard for each is referenced after each performance indicator.
