The Community College Leadership (CCL) Doctoral Program

The community college has long been seen as a center of educational opportunity. They are an American invention and have over a 100 year rich history. Community colleges welcome all who want to learn and are know for their accessibility and affordability. Now numbering over 2,000, they continue to evolve in response to the needs of their communities. This new doctorate in Community College Leadership (CCL) enables the university to provide a “distinctive” program that will meet the unique needs of leaders in urban, suburban and rural community colleges.

This program was developed in partnership with community college faculty and administrators. The CCL program responds to the institutional priority to “increase interdisciplinary and cross-college initiatives” by building on the strengths of doctoral programs in College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the National College of Education (NCE). In strategic plans, developed in 2002, both the College of Arts and Sciences and the National College of Education called for an increase in interdisciplinary initiatives. Finally, this program responds to the institutional priority — to “increase interdisciplinary and cross-college initiatives” by building on the strengths of doctoral programs in CAS and NCE.
