Health Biology Concentration, Biology (B.A.)
The Health Biology Concentration is an innovative program that combines the core Biology majors' curriculum with a focus on biomedical science, topics in human health, and the healthcare industry. The Concentration is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in health sciences that will enable qualified graduates to move into any of the wide variety of career paths available within the healthcare industry. Students may enter the job market immediately after the B.A. The Health Biology concentration prepares such students for jobs as laboratory assistants in research and government laboratories or entry-level positions in the pharmaceutical or medical diagnostics industry. While other students may be interested in professions such as physician assistant, occupational therapy, physical therapy, public health, audiology, forensic sciences, etc. that require further training at the master's or doctorate level. For students unsure of where they fit in the healthcare industry, we have developed a survey course that describes career opportunities within the healthcare industry.
The Health Biology Concentration requires coursework in three areas:
- Basic Biological, Chemical and Physical sciences.
- Health sciences (e.g., Human Genetics, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Pathology).
- Courses about the Healthcare Industry (e.g., Survey of Medical Professions, Medical Vocabulary, Medical Ethics, Public Health, History of Medical Science).
Admission Criteria
Admission requirements remain as specified in the catalogue for students desiring admittance into the B.A. Biology program in the College of Arts and Sciences.
