Marlene Suvada

Assistant Professor, Health Studies Department

Marlene Suvada, Assistant Professor in the Health Studies Department. Ms. Suvada has been with National-Louis University since 1991. She joined the faculty after many years in the Respiratory Care field to teach in the Respiratory Care program. She was also the Clinical coordinator of the program until 2000. In addition, Ms Suvada has taught many courses in the Health Care Leadership Program. Her experience in Respiratory Care began in 1982 following the completion of studies in the field at Northwestern University. Prior to studying respiratory therapy, she completed a Bachelors degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Illinois. Ms. Suvada taught 5th through 8th grade for several years before entering respiratory training. Following a progressive career in respiratory care, she pursued a Masters degree in Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois Chicago. Since receiving the degree she has served as the educational director at the University of Illinois and as the Director of Clinical Respiratory Services at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. In addition to teaching in the field she currently holds certificates as a National Asthma Educator, a Registered Respiratory Therapist and is a practicing adult critical care respiratory specialist. She teaches courses in CPR, as well as other adult critical care topics. She currently consults with various groups such as the American Lung Association, The Chicago Asthma Consortium, and Advocate Health Care's Asthma Learning Center. She has won the award as "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year" given by the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago. Ms. Suvada has interest in children with asthma and has worked for many years with the Lung Associations Camp ACTION, the summer camp for severe asthmatic children.
