| Linda Sweeney Linda Sweeney is an assistant professor who has worked in the field of Developmental Studies/Adult Literacy for more than fifteen years. She has directed the graduate program for ten years and has been instrumental in combining reading with writing for the literacy cognate. Linda believes that technology is the “new” literacy for the 21st century and worked with other faculty members to create the blended and online formats for the graduate program, deeming it important to make coursework available to students at a distance and via asynchronous means. Linda is finishing her doctorate in Reading and Language at the National College of Education. Her dissertation is on movies and the Internet as alternative texts for adult literacy students. Other scholarly interests include the enhancement of coursework with literature, visual strategies for teaching reading and writing, and using popular culture to teach literacy. Linda’s master’s degree is in Art Therapy, though she also holds a professional certificate in Reading, Adult Education. There are good reasons for Linda’s interest in popular culture, considering she wrote romantic suspense for Harlequin, HarperCollins, and other publishers for many years before entering the world of higher education. Additionally, Linda is a professional artist whose work has been shown at the Chicago Mosaic School. 312.261.3081 Lsweeney@nl.edu |
