Luis Kong
Luis Kong
Luis Kong was born in Pisco, Perú. He is a third generation Peruvian of Chinese ancestry. He spoke little English when he immigrated to the U. S. thirty years ago at the age of 15. He studied biology and English Literature at Sonoma State University. He has a Master degree in education from San Francisco State University.

He is actively consulting in organizational and community development for grassroots community groups, non-profits and small businesses. He also provides workshops on board of director’s and staff training as well as in team building strategies. He is an experienced group facilitator and innovative project developer. As a professional life coach, he assists clients in creating powerful performance structures to help them realize their work and personal goals in a balanced, integrated and action oriented way. He is interested in individuals and organizations whose goal is to make a difference in the world.

He has worked as a journalist, and a TV and radio producer. He was the Executive Director of the largest poets in the schools program in the U.S., California Poets in the Schools. He has worked as a community organizer in micro-enterprise development with low-income immigrant families with the Sonoma-Napa Action Project, a faith-based community organization affiliated to the Industrial Areas Foundation. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Center for Adult Education, San Francisco State University. He is currently working on developing a comprehensive training in cultural and racial diversity for community benefit organizations in collaboration with the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County.

He is involved as a volunteer facilitator with the Alternatives To Violence Project (AVP) for Spanish-speakers and youth. AVP provides experiential workshops focusing on Conflict resolution and non-violence training. He is also a board member of the Instituto Sanchez-Mendoza in Santa Rosa, an organization devoted to empowering Latino immigrants to become leaders in their community by providing information on worker rights, health, and family issues like parenting, and domestic violence prevention using capacity building, asset-based community development methodologies such as popular education, popular theater and community organizing.

He has been featured in the Who’s Who of Hispanic Americans in the US. He is a poet, an educator and a cultural broker.
