Kumiko Watanuki

KUMIKO WATANUKI has over twenty-five years experience in International Relations, Cultural and Workforce Diversity, Human Resources Training and Development, Organization Development, and Systems Renewal with a track record of solid achievement in both operating and consulting capacities for not-for- and for-profit organizations and institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

During the summer of 1991, she was invited to Poland by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) - Warsaw to participate in the Polish Foundation Summer Management School Program where she taught OD/HR Management and Training courses. While in Warsaw, she also conducted a workshop, "Matching Business Strategy with Individual Career Plan," for managers at a state-owned export corporation. The ensuing three years she was engaged as consultant-specialist-lecturer providing managment training and executive development workshops for the Telekomunikacja Polska, S.A.

Ms. Watanuki reads, writes and speaks Japanese fluently. She is thoroughly familiar with the Japanese business, cultural and social protocol, tradition, work ethic and social issues. With the advent of APEC and the emergence of global economy, Ms. Watanuki provides a series of international business and social protocol, and cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills seminars to meet the needs of North Americans doing business in Japan and the Asian countries.

She holds a BA degree in Management from Mundelein College, Chicago and an MA degree in Organization Development from the Center for Organization Development, Loyola University Chicago.

Since the 1991-1992 Academic Year she has been a member of Visiting Faculty for the School for New Learning (SNL), DePaul University, Chicago, where she teaches a graduate course, "Valuing Human Differences," and three undergraduate courses; "International Relations," "Management Skills Revisited," and "Japanese Literature through Films." She also serves as a "Professional Advisor" for the SNL undergraduate and graduate students in identifying, assessing, and developing their educational and career goals. Currently, she serves as a Co-chair of the Visiting Faculty Committee and is a member of the Academic Council Committee for SNL.

As for serving the local community, Ms. Watanuki is involved in the Chicago Public School Reform project, has served on the Private Industry Council (PIC) for the City of Chicago, and the Program and Planning Committee of the Spanish Coalition for Jobs, Inc. engaged in training and improving employment opportunities for the Hispanics of the Greater Chicago Metropolitan area.
