Discover NLU

What you'll find at NLUSince 1886, NLU faculty and staff have been working with people just like you. Our reputation has been built upon helping men and women with jobs, families and responsibilities cut through the red tape and get started on their NLU education.

NLU is not a “one-size-fits-all” university. Each student is different—and so you will get individual attention from our faculty and staff every step of the way.

What You’ll Find at NLU

  • Flexible Class Schedules — day, evening, weekends, 24/7 online
  • Convenient Locations — on campus in Illinois in Chicago, Elgin, Lisle, Skokie (North Shore) and Wheeling; on-site at employer locations and easy-to-get-to sites in Illinois, Wisconsin (Milwaukee and Beloit), and Florida (Tampa).
  • Predictable Paths — you know what courses you need to take and when they are offered from the moment you enroll
  • Support Groups many NLU classes are taught using the cohort model where you’ll go through your program with the same group of fellow students
  • Small Classes — NLU is ranked second in the country for its small class size; nearly all of our classes have fewer than 20 students
  • Supportive Faculty — they understand children get sick and your work schedule changes; NLU faculty work with you to make your education work for you
  • Solid Advice — the NLU Undergraduate Advising Center will help you get your degree by finding the courses you need to complete your program—and staying with you throughout your NLU experience to help you stay on track

What You Won’t Find:

A football, basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, golf, cross-country, track or swimming team.  An athletic arena or football stadium. A law school, pharmacy school, school of architecture,  engineering school or a medical school.  An ivy-covered campus with old buildings. Faculty who don’t teach. Classes taught by graduate students or teaching assistants.

Why Not?

Because at NLU we specialize in business, education and specific fields in the liberal arts.  Because NLU faculty are teachers/practitioners/scholars—not scholars who sometimes teach a class. Because NLU students want to spend their time getting a good education rather cheering on sports teams. Because we take education to our students—and wireless connectivity is more important to us than ivy.
