Grants
Grants are gift funds, based on need, that do not have to be repaid. If you're eligible, the grant(s) will be listed on your financial aid Award Notification Letter.
NLU offers the following 4 types of grants:
Federal Pell Grant - The Federal Pell Grant is an award to help undergraduates pay for their education after high school. To determine if you are eligible, the U.S. Department of Education uses a standard formula, passed into law by Congress, to evaluate the information that you report on your FAFSA.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) - The FSEOG is an award to help first-time undergraduates. The amount you may receive depends on your financial need, amount of other aid you receive, and the availability of funds at NLU.
Illinois State Monetary Award Program (MAP) - The MAP award is a grant available from the State of Illinois for Illinois resident undergraduate students. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) developed a formula to evaluate the information reported on your FAFSA. Your eligibility for the MAP grant will be automatically determined by ISAC after you complete the FAFSA. Verification of eligibility and announcement of an estimated award amount (if any) is performed by NLU. Only if you are eligible will an estimated MAP grant appear on your financial aid Award Notification Letter. Please submit your FAFSA application as early as possible each year due to early state deadlines. For more information about this grant please click here.
NLU Grant - In addition to participation in state and federal programs, National-Louis also provides institutionally funded grants. The NLU grants is a grant funded by the University to assist undergraduate students in meeting financial need. The amount you may receive depends on your financial need, amount of other aid you receive, and the availability of funds at NLU.
Note: Please be advised that graduate students are not eligible for any types of grants. Besides specific requirements for each program, all students must also meet these general requirements. In general, institutional aid can only be applied to NLU tuition charges and is not refundable to students. The combination of all restricted grants, scholarships and vouchers is capped at a maximum of tuition and fees.
