Earn up to $50,000 Toward Your NLU Degree

Are you thinking about pursuing your undergraduate degree but not sure you can afford it? The Harrison Fellows Scholarship is designed to help students who show exceptional promise as community leaders earn their degrees through NLU's daytime program at the downtown Chicago campus. Students can take courses in: business, education and human services. The Harrison Fellows Scholarship, worth up to $50,000 (approximately 60% of the tuition costs), is awarded over four years. Other forms of financial assistance may be available. Students of all ages and backgrounds make up a close-knit community of learners who may benefit from extra academic guidance and personal and career development coaching, and a special focus on team building and community engagement.

Fellows attend daytime classes at NLU's downtown Chicago campus and receive additional academic guidance and personal and career development coaching while pursuing one of the following degrees:

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Education
Attending one of the best teaching programs in Chicago, NLU education students learn best practices in the classroom required to be a successful teacher. NLU will help prepare you for the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) required for teacher certification. Choose one of the following education programs:

Elementary Education (Type 03 certification)
Created for students who would like to teach kindergarten through 9th grade. Graduates are eligible to receive their Type 03 certification and an endorsement in math or science.

Early Childhood Education (Type 04 certification)
A program for students who would like to work with children from birth through age eight in a pre-school setting or elementary school. Graduates are eligible to receive their Type 04 certification.

Special Education (LBS1 certification)
Designed for students who want to teach children with special education needs. It includes all preparation for attainment of the Illinois Learning Behavioral Specialist (LBS1) certification necessary for licensure as a special education teacher.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Business Administration
Prepare for a successful career as an entrepreneur or in fields such as general management, marketing, health care and information systems. NLU’s business programs focus on real-world challenges so you learn the essential interpersonal skills, presentation and writing skills, and business savvy necessary to succeed on the job.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Human Services
Help people rise to their potential. Expand your understanding of human development and behavior in a multicultural society. NLU’s human services program will provide you with the skills required to work in psychology, behavioral health, human resources or community service — and make a difference in your community and the world.

  • Have demonstrated exceptional promise of becoming a leader in your community
  • Are seeking your bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Education, or Human Services
  • Plan to attend college full time (min. 12 credits each term)
  • Want to take classes during weekday hours at our downtown Chicago campus
  • Have a sponsor, teacher, counselor, or community leader willing to recommend you and encourage your academic achievement
