Course Description
This course provides an overview of various aspects related to differentiating K-12 literacy instruction for a range of students through participation in a one-day conference (October 15, 2010) sponsored by NLU/Fox Valley Reading Council, and in subsequent on-campus course sessions (Saturday, October 30th, 9:00 - 12:00 pm, and Saturday, November 6th, 9:00 - 12:00 pm), with some related course readings and activities. Focal areas include: boys, students of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, ELLs, gifted and talented, and special needs. In addition, the course examines multicultural trade books, multiple text types, and instructional practices to promote literacy growth and development for such students.
