This committee met for the first time in January 1999 and developed the proposed timeline for NLU’s 2001 Self-Study. The suggested process of working by the months remaining until the visit seemed appropriate for planning purposes. The committee tried to incorporate any ongoing planning processes, accreditation efforts and subcommittee structures.
National College of Education was in the midst of NCATE and ISBE accreditation so this work was especially applicable to the self-study. The College of Management and Business was involved with preparations for IACBE accreditation. In addition, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) was working on new strategic initiatives for 2010, which became part of our planning work during the next years.
As part of the AED process more than 60 faculty, staff and administrators were involved in issues Reflection Groups (IRGs). Nine groups covered such topics as curriculum, student services, assessment, finance, staff development and others. Their task was to raise issues, identify strengths and weaknesses, provide advice to AED, and to respond to suggestions from AED. In September, 1999, President McCray appointed an ad hoc University Planning Committee (UPC) to respond to the AED Report.
